Volunteers are the wind beneath our wings. At the World Kite Museum, we’re incredibly grateful for the amazing people who donate their time, talents, and energy to help us celebrate and preserve the world of kites. Whether you're passionate about history, science, design, or just love seeing people smile, there's a place for you here.

Volunteering with us is flexible, fun, and full of variety. Some volunteers work solo, others as part of a team—and all make a big impact. We welcome people from all walks of life, reflecting both the diverse spirit of the Peninsula and the global kiting community.

There are two ways to get involved: with the public or behind the scenes.

​

If you enjoy meeting new people, our public-facing roles are a great fit. These volunteers help welcome guests, answer questions about exhibits, meet with community partners, assist at events, and lead hands-on kite activities. It’s a chance to share your enthusiasm while creating memorable experiences for visitors of all ages.

If you prefer a quieter pace, behind-the-scenes roles are just as important. These volunteers support essential tasks like collections care, research, marketing, administration, and tech. You might organize materials, catalog kites, help with clerical work, or dive into special projects with staff.

​

A few things to know: volunteers must be at least 16 years old (there’s no upper age limit). We value every volunteer as an ambassador of the World Kite Museum and ask that you represent us with heart and integrity.

If you’re a student, you might also consider interning. Interns gain hands-on experience in museum operations like admissions, exhibit design, collections, and nonprofit administration. High school students may be eligible for community service credits, and college students may earn internship hours—all while making a real impact in the local community.
