The Peninsula Postal Stamp Club of Long Beach, Washington, has embarked on an exciting philatelic project: curating a unique collection of stamps from around the world that feature kites. This initiative reflects both the region’s rich connection to kite flying—celebrated through its annual

Washington State International Kite Festival—and the club’s dedication to preserving postal history and cultural themes through stamp collecting.

 

Members of the club have spent months researching, sourcing, and cataloging stamps from a wide range of countries, each showcasing the beauty, diversity, and symbolism of kites. From traditional Chinese dragon kites to colorful Indian patangs and modern sport kites, the collection captures the

global appeal and artistry of kite flying. The stamps span decades and include rare, commemorative issues as well as modern designs.
